Audax UK Calendar Events

Here are initial details for 2012 events. All events are now published. Routesheets and gps files are being updated. Check the date on any that you download. It's always best to check back and download a new copy near the date of the event. GPS files are available here.
 

Mad March Coasts and Quantocks

200k - 4th March 2012

Pippa's event. It visits both south and north coasts of the SW peninsula, and climbs over the Quantock Hills in Somerset.

Old Roads 300

12th May 2012 starting at 6:00am

The route is a simple as possible, with only five intermediate controls. It follows mostly quiet rural roads.

Part one of the Honiton cycling weekend

A straightforward route with a spectacularly scenic and rather challenging section along the North Devon coast. There are a couple of good cafe controls, and food and drink at the finish.

Avalon Sunrise

400k - 22nd June 2012

Starting from a pub on the Blackdown Hills near Taunton at 10:30pm this event rides through the night to dawn somewhere in Somerset. Then across the Severn Bridge and back home again.

Kernow and Southwest 600

26th May 2012, starting at 6:00am

A scenic tour of the Southwest peninsula with a ferry crossing thrown in. It is an event for experienced randonneurs who know how to pace themselves. There are sleeping facilities at about 365k.

Glastonbury 100 Miler

Part two of the Honiton cycling weekend

A genuine 100 miler starting from Honiton. The route goes via Churchinford, North Curry and Mark to Glastonbury, returning through Shepton Beauchamp.

What Audax Is or Isn't
Mudguards are not required for any of these events. Use whatever bike suits you. If you don't want to follow a routesheet then download the GPS file. You will need to be fit and self-sufficient. Most of these events, especially the longer ones, are hard. You should be an experienced cyclist with both fitness and stamina. There is a minimum speed of 15kph for all the events of 200km and above. Don't worry about the maximum speed of 30kph, you won't get near it. Prepare your bike and yourself carefully for any of these events. If you do all the distances, you become an Exeter Wheelers Super Randonneur.
