34 riders started from Honiton in near freezing conditions. At least the roads were mostly dry. It should be on again next year.
A genuine 100 miler starting from Honiton. The route goes via Churchinford, North Curry and Mark to Glastonbury, returning through Shepton Beauchamp.
There is a short section of A30 out of the town before the route heads up the Otter valley and over the Blackdown Hills on rural lanes. It then drops to the Somerset Levels on lanes only three or four metres above sea level. The vast drainage ditches carry pumped water away, but flooding still often occurs. There are some ridges to cross, where the settlements are and along which the main roads run. After the info control at Mark there's an easy route to Glastonbury – you will see the Tor ahead of you – and a superb town-centre cafe. There is a short section of A39 as you start the homeward journey, then more lanes to High Ham. The route then skirts the edge of Langport, passes the ancient abbey ruins at Muchelney, and the pub at Kingston Episcopi with its CTC sign, to Shepton Beauchamp. The final leg is a rural route between Ilminster and Chard, joining the old coaching road through Stockland to Honiton. But that's not the finish – there's another couple of miles to Awliscombe and the final control, with good food and drink, at the Awliscombe Inn.
